Up until November 2017, I had never been to a women’s empowerment event. I guess I didn’t feel like I needed to attend anything like that. I was already “empowered” in my mind. However, in the last two years, I’ve been to a few events. These events focus on a plethora of themes including business knowledge, spirituality, self-improvement, etc. Some have been a drag, and some have been absolutely life changing. I can include the last three events that I attended in the “life changing” category. The three events were Mind Your Business Workshop Series, God & Goals Conference and Bloom You Brunch).
I came to so many realizations while in attendance of all of these events. Continue reading below to find out some of my discoveries!

A Spiritual Relationship With God is Crucial
Two of the events (God & Goals and Bloom You Brunch) that I attended were Christian-based. As you can probably imagine, there were a lot of testimonies given in reference to the power of prayer and the importance of having a strong relationship with God. I mean, these ladies had been through a lot: failed marriages, domestic violence, and career disappointments. But, they all managed to make it through those tough times, not only because of their faith in God, but because of their relationship with God. They were praying, meditating, reading their Word (the bible), and really taking time away from everything to have their moments with Him.
In the past, I’ve always been proud of my relationship with God. I prayed a lot and I talked to him a lot. But to be completely honest, I can’t think of the last time that I had a moment with God. And my moments of prayer have been few and far in between. The more I thought about it, the more I realized that my relationship with God has been trash lately. After listening to so many women speak about the power of a strong spiritual relationship with God, I realized that I wanted that again. I needed that, actually.
This led me to the decision that I’m going to start making time daily to pray, and meditate. I’ve decided that my relationship with God has to be my main priority over everything. I miss that. I miss Him!
I’m also beginning a 31-Day devotional today called Discovery. This devotional was created by Latoya Mathews, A Style Coach and Fellow Christian. Check it out here.
Don’t Allow Fear and Laziness to Handicap You
There was an ongoing theme at every one of these events. That theme was resilience and courage. The fact that these ladies were standing in front of women that they barely knew; yet they still had the courage to share their stories (most would be too embarrassed to do this) made me feel a little ashamed. I was ashamed that I, unlike these women, had allowed my fear and laziness to stop me from achieving great things.
I have a tendency to allow fear to halt my progress regularly. But, I’ve decided that I will no longer be that person. I’m going to be the person that God created me to be. And even if I’m afraid, I’m going to continue moving forward regardless. Because “God’s got me”!
The Power of (Black) Women is Undeniable
The amount of smart, beautiful, ambitious, and hard-working black women in attendance at all of these events was astounding! And the fact that every event was successfully thrown by black women was even more exciting to me. Not that I needed a reminder, but it was and is a testament to how magical black women are.
There was so much encouragement from my sisters, and so much love!
These ladies have reassured me of my greatness and the greatness of God. God is not one of doubt and fear. So, I won’t be either. I’m determined to surround myself with more women who follow this same mantra!

I am extremely rejuvenated and inspired y’all! And I can’t wait to put all of the things that I learned into action!!! Have you attended any women’s empowerment events that really made a difference in your life? Drop some suggestions below! I’m pretty sure we could all benefit from them. Have a blessed day!
