About a week ago, I was on the road back home from a 4 day vacation in New Orleans, Louisiana. I’m not going to lie, I wasn’t ready to head home quite yet. I could have stayed there an extra day or two if I had it like that. However, it was time to get back to the real world. And as it turns out, I left New Orleans just in time, because a couple days after I left, parts of the city flooded. And a few days later, there was threat of a hurricane hitting the city as well. I’m praying for New Orleans, and I know the people in the city are resilient. I loved being there so much! The city is so live! So, I wanted to share some of my favorite things about New Orleans.
1. The Food in New Orleans is Amazing
Y’all, I ate so much food while in New Orleans! The first time I went to the city a few years ago, I didn’t get to eat out much. This time around, I wanted to make sure I tried as much New Orleans cuisine as possible. And believe me, I went overboard. I had shrimp n’ grits and gumbo from Daisy Dukes , Catfish n’ Grits from Hobnobbers, Jambalaya from Le Bayou, Jambalaya Pasta from Oceana Grill, and more jambalaya at the Essence Festival Expo too. I ate GOOD y’all. So much so, that I gained about 5 pounds in those 4 days that I was there. It was totally worth it!

2. The Street Bands Were So Live
My girls and I stayed at a hotel on the famous Bourbon Street, the heart of French Quarter. So, everyday that we stepped outside of our hotel, we were met with the beautiful sounds of drums, saxophones, and trombones. The bands were up and down Bourbon Street jamming! I felt like I was at an HBCU Homecoming game. The music was stimulating and the scene was very provocative. The guys playing those instruments were all the way LIVE!

3. The Entire City is Picturesque
The people of New Orleans have done a great job at maintaining the historical buildings in the city. So, just about every area in the city is photo-worthy; Especially if you go into the Garden District area. The buildings are super charming and classic.

4. Barhopping on Bourbon Street
I must say that I enjoyed the endless bars on Bourbon Street. I indulged in a couple hurricanes and a few hand grenades; and I loved it! The great thing about the bars on Bourbon Street is that you can buy your drinks, walk right on out of there, and head straight to the next bar. It’s the best thing ever!

5. Last, But Not Least, The People
Everyone from the bell hops to the street dancers were just amazing! There was so much southern hospitality in New Orleans. I know that they were mostly working for tips, but still, their kindness was refreshing.

I can’t wait to go back to this lovely city!!! The next time I go, I want to do some of the tours though. Have you been to New Orleans before? If so, what did you think of the city? Let me know in the comments below!
