Many people have asked me what made me decide to get into photography. So, I decided to do a blog post about my photography journey so far.

About three months ago, I set a few goals that I wanted to accomplish by the end of the year. One of those goals was paying down my debt and saving some coins. To accomplish those goals, I set another goal. That goal was to create a new stream of income. I wanted the new stream of income to be something I actually enjoyed; something that came naturally.
I expressed that goal to my blogging coach, Priiincesss (not really expecting anything, just letting her know my plans), and later on she gave me a call. She basically told me to bring my camera (which I had bought, but hadn’t used for months) with me during our next meetup because she was going to train me in photography. My heart skipped a beat! I was super excited! That was the beginning of my photography journey.
Priiincesss has been a huge help to me. Any questions I’ve had about using the camera, photography terms, photo editing, etc., she has answered them with so much enthusiasm. However, I learned early on that I had to take time on my own to really study the art of photography. This led me to taking a few classes, and signing up for an ongoing photography class called Cole’s Classroom. This class is everything! I get to learn everything from basic photography, marketing, lightroom, flash photography, and the list goes on.

I also scheduled tons of free photography sessions with my blogger boos so that I could better my photography skills, and get some exposure as well. While shooting with one of my clients, I came to the conclusion that I am really doing this. Like I am a PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHER (I’m speaking it into existence)! I also realized that because I’m a style blogger who gets photographed a lot, those who shoot with me expect me to direct them completely. I take that responsibility seriously! That’s another part of photography that I love.
Another aspect of photography that I am passionate about is my ability to capture a woman’s beauty that she probably didn’t know existed. Sometimes we have to be reminded of our flyness! My photoshoots do just that! I’ve experienced these moments a few times with my clients. That look of excitement, and shock that they give me when they finally see themselves, like REALLY see themselves is priceless. These moments melt my heart, and further solidify that I am on the right path.

It’s plain to see that I love photography! And I love shooting my beautiful sistas! So, I wanted to let you know that Dani Smith Photography is officially open for business! I want to help capture those special moments in your life. I want to shoot those fly outfits for your blog. And I want to help you create the perfect shots for your new book cover. I want to shoot YOU! Check out my photography page!
